11.23.09: The Name Game
It's a thrill for kids to see their names in print - is it any wonder practically every gift store has a display of magnets or keychains with dozens of common kids' names? Growing up with a more unusual name - Liv - meant my name never showed up at those kiosks. So receiving something personalized was extra-special for me. My kids will grow up with a similar experience, except now it's much easier - and cheaper - to order stuff with their names. Like these cool stickers.
These personalized stickers come in packs of 12 for $3.95 and are available in tons of styles. Wouldn't they make great stocking stuffers? Kids could seal thank you notes with them, put them on school folders, use them as book labels...the possibilities are endless!
a la mode (sweet tip on the side)
How common is your kid's name? Or yours? There are a few fun web sites out there that will tell you! According to How Many of Me, I'm the only person in the U.S. with my name (first and last combined)! Name Statistics also says my name is "very rare." You can also search the Social Security Administration's lists of the most popular baby names for every year since 1880! Last year, Jacob and Emma topped the lists. In 1880, it was John and Mary.
